Tom Manning was a freedom fighter, political prisoner, and prolific artist. His paintings are stories that jump off the page, revealing the outlook of people who struggle for liberation around the world. His paintings are about life and his landscapes recall times of importance.
This is a beautiful, full-color book printed by the Inkworks Collective. Manning's artwork includes portraits (of historical figures, activists, and cultural figures, among others); natural scenes and landscapes from around the world; interpretations of iconic images; and more. In addition to 100 pages of paintings, the book also contains several short pieces by Manning and others, as well as a poem by Assata Shakur.
"I’m overwhelmed by the talent, indomitable will, and purity of heart displayed here. To say that I am awed by this book does not do it justice."—Robby Meeropol (from the Preface)
