We are hiring someone for a Marketing and Publicity position.
Job responsibilities include:
Working with authors and AK’s Publishing department to develop marketing and publicity plans for each new AK title.
Marketing of AK Press Titles: Advertising (including ad design) and targeted direct marketing to relevant individuals, academics, professional and political organizations, and libraries.
Publicity of AK Press Titles: Securing reviews of our books, creating and sending one-sheets as well as review copies, and obtaining and coordinating interviews with AK authors for print, radio, and television.
Coordinating with our distributor (Consortium). This includes announcing titles, as well as creating tip sheets and catalog copy, and attending two sales conferences per year.
Creating and managing an annual Marketing and Publicity budget.
Coordinating the production of two AK Press Titles catalogs per year (spring/summer and fall/winter).
Related growth areas include:
Maintaining and enhancing pages for AK titles on our website.
Marketing to expand and enhance our subscription-based program, Friends of AK Press.
General collective duties:
Participating in the self-management of the entire workplace (from sweeping the floors to tabling at events to helping chart the political direction of the organization)
Job requirements include:
A minimum of three years experience completing aspects of the Job Responsibilities above.

Experience with Excel, Filemaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, and/or Acumen Book
Relevant job experience managing multiple projects at once
Foreign language skills
Experience in other collectives
Connections to current political activities
Experience in the book trade
We are looking for someone to work in our Oakland location but will consider the right candidate to work with us from a remote location
