Flight

Flight was originally performed as a shadow theater piece depicting the picaresque journey of a youth displaced by war, attempting to escape and transcend persecution. The wordless half-hour show featured a unique montage-based technique of shadow storytelling; illuminating scrolling landscapes; and intricately-cut scenes of shipwrecks, refugee camps & burning house. The hair-raisingly beautiful, semi-improvised score was performed live by violinist Katt Hernandez.

The book/CD adaptation is an innovatively designed, hand-assembled 44-page booklet containing the 30-minute solo violin score on CD, all the art from the show (with multiple fold-out sections!), hand-printed details, and silkscreened cardboard covers made from reused record covers.
