Twenty-three bands, 23 songs, from the heyday of the UK anarcho-punk scene. This is actually an incredible document of some of the more wonderful sounds, and words, to come out of the UK in the early 80s. Some of the big names are here—Zounds, Dirt, Anthrax, Omega Tribe, Lost Cherees, Rubella Ballet—but so are many of the thousands of bands that never got beyond that 7" or demo tape—Metro Youth, Flowers In The Dustbin, Astronauts, The System, Sanction, Blood Robots, Riot/Clone, Youth In Asia, Naked, Anti-System, Faction etc., etc. As well as the 70 minutes of glorious sounds, there's a thick booklet, with pictures and words, on, or about, all the bands featured. The first of a projected three part anthology, this is pretty essential for anyone who wants to know what was going on in the political punk scene in the UK back then, not to mention anyone that actually enjoys genuinely great political music. What a treasure.
