ITEM OVERVIEW
During the last decade, anarchism has reappeared in many countries where it was suppressed or forgotten. The philippines is one of these countries. Anarchism influenced the early anti-imperialist struggle, but was then pushed aside by state socialism and Marxist-Leninism. But now our comrades are back and are producing a new anarchist analysis applicable to thier situation.
The Re-Emergence Of Anarchism In The Philippines, is, I believe, the first such analysis to be published in North America. The author, Bas Umali, bases his anarchism upon the formation of decentralized, direct-democratic federations of communities rooted historically in the traditional barangay, or decentralized community. Confederation of the myriad of communities and associations that make up the Philippine Archipelago is seen as an alternative to the corrupting centralization of the state and a path out of poverty.
