She shows how women have responded to the opportunities presented by these changes, as well as to the setbacks of the military occupation, in ways that are active, individual and complex. Through interviews with women of all ages and social backgrounds, from grandmothers who grew up under the restrictions of traditional village life to educated young fighters, this book examines various key areas - agriculture, education, political action, expectations of marriage, religious and social ideologies - and reveals the different ways in which women see themselves, their experiences, and their place in the Palestine of the future.
