ITEM OVERVIEW
Bill Ayers was born into privilege and is today a highly respected educator and community activist. In the late 1960s, in response to his increasing horror at the American involvement in Vietnam, he helped found the Weather Underground. Living as a fugitive, stealing explosives, and hiding from the law, Ayers was involved in the defining moments of his generation—the Days Of Rage, SDS, the Black Panthers, and the militant actions (and horrendous errors) of the Weather Underground. This is an incredible story, notable not only for its detail, but for the honesty with which Ayers tackles a life underground, a vanguardist political organization, and the lessons he draws from that. The fact that he is a great writer, who provides a fascinating and engrossing read, also helps.
"For anyone who cares about the sorry mess we are in, this book is essential, indeed necessary, reading." —Edward Said
"A wild and painful ride...a very good book about a terrifying time in America." —Hunter S. Thompson
